Subjectyour post on IE8

Hi Tarquin,

Your post on IE8 says: "make sure you disable any add-on toolbars
before you run it or it can crash."

I thought you may like to know that I installed IE8 RC1 before reading
your advice. I have the RNIB "Surf Right" toolbar and DebugBar 5.1.1
installed, with no problems so far.

Thanks for your information. I just discovered your site, and you
seem to have some very useful articles. I'll be visiting often!

I do not expect a reply. Thanks.

Cordially,
David

Thanks for the info. The initial warning came from Microsoft's blog
announcement of the first beta, where it was mentioned that several (but
not all) popular toolbars caused crashes. I have not seen this warning
rescinded yet, so I'll keep it until IE 8 goes final. At that point, I
will assume they have fixed the crashers, even if they don't mention
that themselves.

Hi Tarquin,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my email.

It turns out that there was a problem with the add-ons to IE8 RC1
after all. Form text inputs and textareas received focus okay, but
I couldn't actually type anything into them. This affected all versions
of IE running on the same machine (via Tredosoft's Multi-IE.)

[Ed. Instructions for avoiding this problem have been included in the IE
article.]

I suspect it was DebugBar that caused it. Faced with a choice of
uninstalling DebugBar or IE 8, I chose to uninstall IE8 as I find the
DebugBar invaluable, especially when it comes to IE 6 bugs.

FWIW I am running [Windows] under [virtual computer] on a [Mac].
The install is remarkably stable - IE and the OS have not crashed in
the ten months I switched from an [Brand] laptop.

Cordially,
David
