I just fixed this bug you mentioned:
> Mozilla/Firefox blurs shadows slightly more than the requested blur value,
> then clips the shadows to the required distance, making them end too

Should be fixed in the next 3.2 nightly build and I'll push it back to
the 3.1 branch so it will be fixed in Firefox 3.1 when that comes out.
The fix didn't make FF3.1 beta2 though.
