Hi!

Thanks for your speed comparison test of browsers.
I saw it's a bit outdated and look for a new one.
Do you know where I can find it.
I'm particulary interested to know a bit more about maxthon and firefox last
versions:
I love firefox but some extensions sucks.
Maxthon seems now faster than firefox and respect (apply) the M$ standards
which whatever we can say are used by some important site like yahoo mail,
banks, ...
And moving from one browser to another is annoying.
I used IE for windowsupdate only but now use maxthon!
And as I do web developpement, I see how hard it will be to support all
these browsers.
So I think to support only IE and clones + Firefox (the most widespread
browsers).
What do you think of that?

Thanks for your site.

I update it at intervals.

I will be adding the new Firefox (deer park) in a few weeks when I go back
home.

Maxthon will not have got any faster since I did the tests, since no matter
what, it still relies on the IE that is installed on your system. IE has not
changed (unless you are running IE 7 beta), so neither will Maxthon.

Deer park, on the other hand, is faster than the Firefox version I did the
tests with. It should be similar to the results for Mozilla 8 (since they
share the same core).

yes, but it is fairly painless in some cases, and even if it is annoying,
moving from anything IE based to something better is an important move to
make. IMHO, IE is a security risk, and insult to web standards.

I am not impressed. I recommend supporting the main standards compliant
browsers, and IE. Personally, I use Opera, and that is not Firefox or IE
(although it is standards compliant, so it is similar to Firefox - each of
them has some parts of standards that the other does not).

I recommend supporting as many browsers as you can, but at an absolute
minimum, a web developer should support;
Opera 8+
Firefox (and related browsers like Mozilla)
Safari (and related browsers like OmniWeb or Konqueror)
IE (because it is the most popular - even if it is the least compliant)

If written properly (do not use browser sniffing, and don't rely on everyone
having the latest bleeding edge releases), your pages will work in all the
standards compliant browsers. So if you do not have a Mac or Linux, don't
worry about Safari/Konqueror - they are very similar to Opera and Firefox.
As a bonus, they will also work in iCab, and some of the other less common
browsers.
